Geelong Refurbishment
Punters have a lot to be confident about when racing resumes on the Pro-Ride® track at Geelong after a refurbishment of the Geelong Pro-Ride® has left the track in an extremely consistent condition.
The refurbishment in early February took three days and was undertaken by the tracks installers, Pro-Ride Racing, as part of their on-going maintenance program.
Paul Carroll, CEO of the Geelong Racing Club, has hailed the Pro-Ride® track at Geelong as a huge success, both for the club and the industry.
“From a business perspective the (Pro-Ride) track has been an outstanding success; it has secured our future within the industry. It allows us to take transferred race meetings at short notice. In September of last year we ran 6 race meetings in 8 days … the track coped un-believably well.”
Speaking for the up-coming Pro-Ride DVD, Paul also spoke about the advantages of a Pro-Ride® track from a punters perspective.
“The number of favourite or well fancied winners is above average … 75% of winners on this track are first, second or third favourites. We have found that punters can go in with complete confidence that their selection, the majority of the time, will get every opportunity to win the race.”
Pro-Ride Racing Managing Director, Ian Pearse, inspected the track after the refurbishment and was pleased with the results.
“I am very excited and looking forward to a great racing season. The track is in excellent condition.”
The refurbishment of the Geelong Pro-Ride® has secured that tracks ‘Good 3’ rating for the duration of the upcoming winter racing season. This leaves the door open for washed-out race meetings elsewhere in Victoria to be transferred to the Pro-Ride® at Geelong during winter.
Jockey Damien Oliver also showed his support for the Pro-Ride® track at Geelong. Speaking after a race during the 2011 winter season, Damien noted the importance of racing on the Pro-Ride® track.
“It’s beautiful. There is an absolute need for it at this time of the year. Other tracks just can’t stand up to the amount of racing we have in June (or) July with no growth in the grass.”
Racing will resume at Geelong on the Pro-Ride® on the 13th April 2012.
